ONCE WERE WARRIORS

ONCE WERE WARRIORS

For centuries Moroccan Amazigh women have communicated their identity, resilience, and freedom through powerful visual symbols.

These symbols, ever evolving, have been passed down from generation to generation through the sacred art of facial tattooing,

I asked five young women with Amazigh heritage what messages they would send back to their ancestors using this most traditional of art forms.

These skills and the voices of the past, they say are still forged in strength and self-expression of the future

This work is intended as a tribute to the unbreakable spirit of ancient Amazigh womanhood and modern trailblazers alike.
